PROJECT
Using volumetric capture to streamline creation of exact digital twins for a digital experience.
The Background
The Vilcek Foundation, an organization dedicated to highlighting the contributions of immigrants in the United States and promoting the arts and sciences, approached CXR.Agency with the goal of creating volumetrically captured 3D files of traditional Native American pots. This project aimed to raise awareness and appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of indigenous peoples in the United States.
The challenge
The client desired models that accurately replicated the intricate details of the original pottery pieces. The delicate nature of the pottery added an additional layer of difficulty, as the team was unable to rotate the objects to capture the bottom panel.
    THE SOLUTION
Our team successfully overcame the challenge of creating precise and detailed 3D models of pieces by utilizing post-editing techniques. We were able to sample the texture of the pot and recreate an accurate looking bottom portion. This solution allowed for a seamless integration of the pieces into their website, providing an immersive experience for viewers.
    THE SOLUTION
    SERVICES / PROCESS
    • 3D SCANNING

Using Artec 3D scanners, our team was able to quickly create detailed 3D models – removing 70% of the process required for traditional 3D modeling from scratch.
    • CLEAN AND OPTIMIZED

After scanning the pieces and creating the initial renders, we passed the files to our 3D team to optimize and make them perfect representations of the actual art.
    • TECHNICAL APPROACH

We evaluated and isolated a 3D model viewing platform that wouldn’t compromise file quality . Unity proved to be the best solution.
    Results
The Vilcek Foundation received 3D models of Native American pots with a textured finish, specifically designed for online viewing and utilization in AR/VR technology.
